About Department

The Department of Geography  was  established in 2014  with Prof. Mushtaq Ali Mir as the mentor  of the college at the time. Though still in its infancy the department has established a well equipped surveying and cartography lab with all the necessary instruments like Plain table and its accessories, Prismatic compass, Binoculars,Toposheets and various geographical models and maps as well.

The Department has been actively associated with organizing seminars on contemporary geographical themes and other academic activities like subject tours and trips .In November 2017 ,the department organized a regional  seminar on Remote sensing and GIS with subject experts   of international repute.

The Department by virtue of its reputation has remained a major attraction for students and them opting Geography  as one of the subjects in their undergraduate courses.It has witnessed an unprecedented increase in the student strength , and at present caters to the needs of around 550 students of various semesters. The department has a faculty strength of 5 persons having specializations in various sub fields of Geography.

The existing 3 year Undergraduate Geography (Choice Based Credit system) stretches over 58 credits including 34 credits to subject core papers,8 practical credits  and 16 credits for skill enhancement courses.

Rehana Rasool                                                                          

Ms Rehana Rasool has Masters in the field of Geography and has qualified National Eligibility Test.She is  also currently pursuing her doctoral programme from Department of Geography, University of Kashmir, J&K. She has a working experience of more than three years. She has published papers in a no. of scholarly peer-reviewed journals and has participated and  presented papers in various  national/international seminars and conferences. She has also organized a seminar at GDC Tral and has attended various workshops and orientation courses. Currently, she is serving as an Assistant Professor in the department.Her areas of specialization include Urban and Tourism Geography, Land use Land cover studies,Remote Sensing and GIS.Other than teaching she is actively associated with various extracurricular activities and programmes at Govt. Degree College, Tral.

 Bashir Ahmad Dar                                                             

Mr Bashir Ahmad Dar has been working  as a lecturer in the department since 2015 .He possesses MSc, Mphil in Geography and has qualified the UGC-NET exams as well. Further more he has attended one national and one international conference as well.His areas of specialization include applied Geomorphology .

 Gulzar Qadir Ganaie                                                             

Mr Gulzar Qadir Ganaie has been working as a lecturer in the department since 2017 .He has MA, Mphil, and has qualified UGC-NET in Geography.His areas of specialization include Urban and Tourism Geography.He has attended and participated in one national and one international conference.

 

Aejaz Ahmad Rather                                                           

Mr Aejaz Ahmad rather has been working as an assistant lecturer in the department since 2014.He possesses a M A, Mphil in the subject.His areas of specialization include Regional Geography.

 

Tawheeda Jan                                                                    

 Ms Tawheeda Jan is presently the Lab assistant of the department.
