NSS AWARD




It is a matter of great joy and honour for the college to have been awarded the twin PrestigiousIndira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards  for the year 2010-11. The Prestigious  award ceremony was held on 19th of November 2011 at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi  wherein the awards were presented by the Hon’ble Minster of Youth Affairs and Sports Mr. Ajay Makhan. The awards comprise of a certificate, cash prize of Rs 20,000 and silver medal to the college NSS programme Officer, Professor Bashir Ahmad Shah and a trophy and cash prize of Rs 70,000 to the college NSS unit.  It is worth mentioning that the IGNSS awards were instituted in the year 1992-93 to encourage the outstanding contribution of NSS volunteers and functionaries towards the development of society. In fact, Government Degree College Tral is the first college of the state to receive the prestigious Indira Gandhi NSS award. The awards have been the result of the painstaking social service accorded by the NSS team to the people of the area during various eventualities under the able guidance of the Programme officers especially Prof Shah. Besides the Principal Prof. (Dr) Mohammad Aslam Baba, the recipient was warmly congratulated by the staff members – both teaching and non-teaching- for having brought laurels not only to the institution but also to the Department of Higher Education and the University of Kashmir as well.  While congratulating the Programme officer and the NSS team for this great achievement, the principal of the college underlined the unflinching support and encouragement which the team received from the Honourable Minister of Higher Education,  former Principal of the college Prof G. M Tibet Baqal;    Dr. Iqbal Hakeem  NSS programme coordinator University of Kashmir;  State liaison officer NSS Higher education, Prof. Muqbil Chesti  and the respected locals of the area.  Furthermore, the Principal assured the team of every possible support to continue such activities in future and stressed that the team should move beyond the limits of Tral to offer its services for the benefit of the society.
