 About the Department

The Department of Arabic was established in 1988. A number of eminent professors and language experts have so far rendered their valuable services to the department. From its very inception, the department has been committed to academic excellence characterized by its applied, practical and comprehensive teaching methodology with a view to develop all the four basic language skills among the students including reading, writing, listening and speaking.

● To provide quality education and produce competent and professional graduates who can contribute to society both by their deeds and words

Vision

 To develop global proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and enable our youth to meet the diverse academic & professional career in the respective domain.

Aims and objectives

  • To familiarize the students with the Arabic Language and enrich their reading, writing and communicative skills
  • To foster better understanding about the Arab World and paramount legacy of Arabic Literature
  • To develop and promote department’s relations with other interdisciplinary studies

Future Aspirations

  • To establish a Language Lab to practically teach students conversation and phonetics and improve their language skill through audio-visual means
  • To introduce a Spoken Arabic Certificate Course for the aspirants willing to learn Arabic as additional subject.
  • To introduce Post graduate course in the department in order to cater the demands of the students

Challenges

Teaching a foreign language like Arabic to the non-native speakers and train them as professional ones, is indeed a challenge and uphill task which besides knowledge, skill and expertise demands a homogenous and work – oriented culture all at once. Although, the department has shown excellent progress in terms of enrollment and pass percentage. However, the dream of good to better and better to best is still to be fulfilled.

Departmental Activities

The department has been actively engaged in providing guidance and counseling to students especially to those desirous to go for higher education & research in future. The department has been collaborating with the college Seminar Committee to organize various student-centric activities in the college.
